Great Brook Farm

Enjoy a tour of the only state park in the U.S. with a working dairy farm. Tamma Duffy and her family own Great Brook Farm at Great Brook State Park in Carlisle, MA. The farm is home to state of the art technology and a seasonal ice cream stand. They also sell compost and have a cranberry bog. Tamma explains the importance of local food.

Whittier Farms

Fletcher Farm

Dairy farms like Fletcher Farm grow cover crops after their main crop is harvested to build healthy soils and to protect waterways. Millbury, MA

Elmhurst Dairy Farms

Their cows are ultimate recyclers. The farm receives spent brewers' grain from a nearby brewery in Worcester. Cows are able to consume and upcycle this byproduct because they are ruminants. It’s not just brewers’ grain, from cranberry pulp to bakery leftovers, cows on local dairy farms consume many byproducts inedible to humans, avoiding landfills or incineration. In return, they produce milk, a high-quality source of nutrition that nourishes our communities.

Deerfield, MA

Bar-Way Farm

This farm is home to 300 cows and an anaerobic digester that turns cow manure and local food waste into renewable energy. The digester produces sustainable electricity that powers the dairy farm and provides additional energy back to the nearby community. Jordan Dairy Farms

Situated across from their town’s water supply, Jordan Dairy Farms is committed to sustainability. Their anaerobic digester converts methane from cow manure and food waste into electricity that powers the farm and nearby homes. They utilize no-till and soil aeration in their fields to increase liquid retention, so manure is soaked into the soil instead of running off into their local pond. Pine Island Farm

This local dairy farm owns and operates an anaerobic digester that takes manure and turns it into recycled byproducts such as electricity, fertilizer, and bedding for cows. This is just one of the many practices Pine Island Farm and other dairy farmers in our region take to protect the planet.
