New England Dairy is proud to introduce our 2022 Boston Marathon® Moo Squad member Sarah Zgainer.
Sarah is committed to raising at least $5,000 to support increased physical activity, nutrition education, and access to healthy food for youth and families throughout New England. When she hits the course from Hopkinton to Boston on April 18th, she will be competing in her eleventh marathon.
Running and fitness are an important part of Sarah’s life. She first got into running as a hobby with her husband Ryan. They competed in Tough Mudders, Spartan Runs, and other 5ks for fun. After gaining more experience Sarah ran 9 miles, her longest distance, in the Ragnar Relay Race from Miami to Key West. That’s when she figured it was time to try a 10-mile race, then a half marathon, until she finally ran her first marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon, in 2016.
Sarah loves running because it feels like therapy to her. It gives her alone time to think, decompress, and relax. She says her motivation comes from holding herself accountable, which is why she loves to sign up for races as they give her an extra push to achieve her goals.
Her go-to pre-race meal is always a blueberry bagel with peanut butter and a mini orange juice. After a race, she loves chocolate milk to recover and craft beer to indulge.
When Sarah read about New England Dairy and what dairy farmers do for youth wellness, she felt immediately connected to our mission. Living in Arlington, VA, Sarah has been a pediatric emergency medicine nurse practitioner for about 14 years. She is passionate about taking care of children and families. Sarah and her husband also love their beagles. They even foster and work with Beagle Freedom Project and Beagle Rescue Southern Maryland.
We are so excited to have Sarah on our team. Her passion for wellness and helping others shines through in everything she does. You can learn more about Sarah and support her journey to the 2022 Boston Marathon® here.
Good luck Sarah! We wish you the best as you raise funds and prepare to check Boston off your bucket list.
