This 100-year-old farm probably has more Instagram followers than you.
The Richardson Farm has been in the Richardson family for five generations, starting in 1907 when James Richardson purchased the property in Hartland, Vermont. These days, the farm’s day-to-day operations are very much a family affair. Gordon Richardson and his sons, Scott and Reid, manage the 130-head dairy that sells milk to Cabot Creamery Cooperative.
“We depend on the cows for our livelihood,” says Scott Richardson. “We are like a team,” says Amy Richardson, Scott’s wife. “The cows depend on us to be good managers, and we depend on them to make high volume of a high quality product.”
While the farm is over 100 years old, their social media presence is far from old-fashioned. Amy runs the farm’s Instagram account (@RichardsonFamFamer) that has over 16,000 followers and counting.
“I had this idea in my mind of how I just wanted to share peeks into what we’re doing here,” she said.
The Richardson family also makes split rail fencing and produce top quality, delicious maple syrup. With 8,000 tree taps, they produce over 4,500 gallons of syrup per year.
