“A farm goes out of business and it may go into condos or development, but you would be hard pressed to ever find a development torn down to go into farming.” -Tim Taft
The Taft family operates the only dairy farm in Huntington, Vermont as well as a maple sugaring business. Tim Taft has seen the effects of dairy farms going out of business and is working hard to keep the farm that he inherited from his great-grandfather alive. He cares for 250 jersey cows alongside his parents, Bruce and Mary, and his wife, Margaret and their son, Kyle.
For the Taft’s it’s important to keep their farm active to help maintain a beautiful and fertile landscape, habitat for wildlife, economic activity and an enjoyable way of life.
“A farm goes out of business and it may go into condos or development, but you would be hard pressed to ever find a development torn down to go into farming, and once it’s gone it won’t ever come back. I’m a little proud that we are still here,” Tim said.
